President, Weather Group and Executive Vice President, Allen Media Group

Tom O’Brien is President of The Weather Channel and Executive Vice President of Allen Media, LLC., leading one of the most enduring and trusted brands in American media. He has overall responsibility for all television and digital operations for The Weather Channel and Local Now, Allen Media Group’s national AVOD streaming service. As EVP of Allen Media, he works closely with the Founder and Chairman to drive enterprise growth, strategic alignment, and long-term value creation.


Under O’Brien’s leadership, The Weather Channel has continued to lead the industry in innovation, pioneering immersive mixed-reality storytelling that helps audiences understand complex and life-threatening weather events. The network has earned multiple News and Documentary Emmy Awards and has been recognized by YouGov as the most trusted media organization in the United States for four consecutive years.

Prior to joining Allen Media, O’Brien was a corporate officer at Nexstar Media Group, where he served as Executive Vice President, Digital Media and Chief Revenue Officer during a period of rapid growth and transformation. Earlier in his career, he held senior leadership roles at NBCUniversal, including President and General Manager of NBC’s flagship station WNBC-TV in New York and Executive Vice President and Chief Revenue Officer of CNBC. He began his career in broadcast management and sales roles at Viacom/Paramount Broadcasting.

O’Brien is a recognized industry leader and currently serves on the Board of Directors of the International Radio and Television Society Foundation, the Media Ratings Council, and the American Red Cross Climate Crisis Task Force. He is a graduate of Syracuse University’s S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications and the School of Management.
