The Weather Channel Launches Fan Comfort Index for the 2026 World Soccer Championship

The Weather Channel is introducing the Fan Comfort Index, a new weather index that factors the four metrics impacting comfort most, to help keep World Soccer Championship fans comfortable and prepared as they attend matches across the U.S.

Rather than relying on temperature alone, the FCI combines key variables into a simple 1–5 rating that tells fans exactly what to expect and how to prepare before they head to the stadium:

  • Thermal Stress: Heat and humidity (apparent temperature)
  • Exposure: UV index and solar intensity
  • Atmospheric Impact: Precipitation probability and wind speed
  • Air Quality: Local conditions at each venue

The FCI will be published daily across The Weather Channel television network, streaming TV app, and social media for every match played in U.S. host cities from June 11 to July 19: Atlanta, Boston, Dallas, Houston, Kansas City, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, Philadelphia, San Francisco, and Seattle.

The Five FCI Ratings

  1. Prime: Ideal conditions.
  2. Solid: Mostly favorable with minor sun glare, light wind or cool evening temperatures.
  3. Iffy: Noticeable weather impact. Pack for heat, humidity, or light rain.
  4. Tough: Oppressive heat or steady rain. Shelter will be in demand.
  5. Brutal: Extreme heat, lightning, severe weather. Precautions required.
